Shampoo or no-poo

Shampoo vs No-Poo Method

What do you think? Shampoo or No-Poo Method?

When I learned about the No-Poo method, I had many doubts. I thought you needed shampoo to remove out dirtiness and the excess of oil out of your scalp. Also, that you needed conditioner to provide moisture and probably other nutrients your scalp or hair need. However, I was struggling with dandruff due to the excessive dryness I had in my scalp.

I knew it had to be either the shampoo or the conditioner, but I didn’t know which one was.

I tried the different anti-dandruff shampoo, but they only worked in the beginning. Later, the shampoo will stop working, bringing with it more dandruff.

I was disappointed and angry because I could not find anything that could help me with my dandruff problem. And although I had my doubts about this method, I was so in need of something to help me get rid of dandruff that I didn’t give much thought to it, and I started to do it.

When I did my first wash, I saw the results immediately. All the dandruff went away, and my scalp was cleaner than never before.

After that, I can say that I never went back to use shampoo. And I can proudly say that I haven’t used shampoo since October 2018.

Benefits of the No-Poo Method

  1. Balances scalp and hair’s pH, since water, has a neutral pH of 7. Also, Baking Soda is very alkaline, and Apple Cider Vinegar ver is acidic, and mixing these two make a perfect blend.
  2. There is no exposure to chemicals that can strip your hair. However, with shampoo, there is a great exposure to these chemicals.
  3. This method will help your scalp to generate the necessary oils your hair needs. There is also a chance that you don’t have to use any deep conditioners (unless you have dry curly hair like mine).
  4. Water is FREE, so you will save more money!

The No-Poo Method

Recipe

Shampoo replacement:

  • Baking Soda = 1 tablespoon

Conditioner Replacement: Mix

  • Apple Cider Vinegar = 1/2 cup
  • Water = 1/2 cup

When it comes to this method, the key is to use Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) together. Although both of them are known for reducing dandruff in the scalp, you can NOT use only one of them. The reason for this is that Baking Soda is too alkaline, and ACV is too acidic. If you use only one of them, the pH balance of your scalp will be affected, and the problem with dandruff will become worst.

Procedure

In the beginning, I washed my hair twice a week with the No-Poo method.

*Note: It is necessary to be aware that if you use too much baking soda, your scalp can become dryer, and as a consequence, more dandruff can come. This is why if you see that your scalp is becoming dryer, try reducing the Baking Soda down to a teaspoon.

After a couple of months, I started to wash my hair once a week with the No-Poo method. Because I use products, due to my curly hair, I washed my hair with water once or twice a week to remove the old products.

Only Water Wash

To do this, I start by rinsing and massaging my hair with warm water. I use warm water to wash away any impurities in the scalp and hair. After cleaning my hair with warm water, it is essential to use cold water to give strength to the hair. I do this twice a week to remove cream residues.

Conclusion

To conclude, I hope this information helped you to decide whether or not to try the No-Poo Method, and to keep trying to get healthier hair and scalp.

I always recommend this to anyone who tells me that they are having problems with dandruff and dry scalp. There are a few other things you have to do to achieve a healthy scalp, but with the No-Poo Method, you can start by setting up the foundation.

What’s the point of using something that doesn’t help your hair or scalp, but it damages it?
