Squish to Condish is a product application technique that employs conditioner to help the water penetrate the hair better.
This technique has been around for a while. It’s known for bringing lots of hydration and helps with clump/curl formation.
Squish to Condish is also known as STC and S2C, and we should use it when conditioning our hair.
How to STC?
There are different ways you can do this technique, but these two are the most common ones.
- Original (most used)
- Bowl Method
*It is worth mentioning that this technique was first applied in a hair salon by a hairstylist called Melissa Stites. The initial method was different from these. (I found this while going to the first YouTube posts about STC, not sure if this info is 100% accurate as I couldn’t find anything else before her).
Original
The original method consists of applying the conditioner to the hair and letting the conditioner act for a couple of minutes. After that, we collect the running water from the shower with our hands. Finally, cupping your hair inside your hands filled with water, we squish our hair.
We proceed to do this a couple of times until we see there is almost no conditioner left. After that, we can rinse the rest of the conditioner.
Bowl Method
With the Bowl Method, after we have applied the conditioner to our hair, we need to take a bowl and fill it with water. Then we will need to put our hair inside the bowl and proceed with the same squishing/pulsing method but with the water coming from inside the bowl.
We do this a couple of times then we can proceed to rinse off the conditioner.
Benefits
This method helps hair to absorb the product and hydration applied. It also helps with clump formation.
This technique is especially beneficial to coarse and low porosity hair types. These two have the most difficulty absorbing moisture and product.
Final
If you apply this technique, I would love to know what your results were. Make sure to send me a DM so I can learn how your specific hair type reacted. I always love to know more about the different hair types!
