Best Protective Styles for Natural Hair: No Wigs/Weaves

  • Post category:Hairstyles

Sometimes when we start on our natural hair journey, we don’t know what natural hairstyles we can do to protect our hair. And often, weaves or wigs are out of the question because if these are installed wrong, you will end up damaging your natural hair even more. Furthermore, there are occasions where we want to do different protective styles but don’t have the time to go to a stylist.

Today, I will show you the Best Protective Styles for Natural Hair (with no added hair, weaves or wigs), that you can do from the comfort of your house. And you won’t need many tools or skils to do any of these.

Tools You Might Need

  • Wide Tooth Comb
  • Hair Ties
  • Preferred Hair Product (Gels, Leave-ins, Foams, Creams, etc.)
  • Water or Detangling Cream

The Best Protective Styles

1. Flat Twists (Flat Braids Alternative)

For this one, you will need a wide-tooth comb. Additionally, you will need your preferred hair product to style, along with water or detangling cream.

To me, doing twist is a simple alternative to braids, and for those of you who don’t know how to do flat twists, here you have a tutorial by Hazel Goddess, that shows you how to do Flat Twist. I believe this is a simple way to explain.

2. Pineapple

Everybody knows how to do a Pineapple or Pom pom (how I call it). Besides being an excellent option for those days when we don’t want to spend too much time styling our hair, this hairstyle protects our hair.

I don’t need to explain much in this one, but if you want to level up your look, you can add accessories, such as bandanas, hairpins, hair barrettes, etc.

For this, you will need a hair tie, your preferred styling product, and water or detangling cream. Also, this is a video tutorial by Alyssa Marie Xo, where she explains how to do the pineapple hairstyle and adds an accessory to it.

3. Two Strand Twists (Box Braids Alternative)

This one is one of my favorite hairstyles. With the two strands twist, you will be able to wear a protective style for a long time, and when you get tired of it, you can turn it into a beautiful twist out.

For this one, you will need products, a comb, and water or detangling cream.

Below, you will find a complete hair tutorial by JeanetteJBeauty, to do these two strands twists.

4. Bun

As the last protective style, I needed to include this one. As pineapples, Buns are an excellent protective style for when you don’t feel like doing a complicated hairstyle. It doesn’t require much effort and always looks clean and classy.

You only need a comb or brush, your preferred product, and water.

Conclusion

To end, I just need to say that I hope this list of Protective Styles for Natural Hair did serve you and that it is easy enough for you to do from the comfort of your house. Also that the video tutorials presented above were of help.
